The history of the English department is inextricably Linked with that of Sir C R REDDY College For Women. It has been one of the prominent departments of the college since it's inception in 1987, September 14, with a team of dedicated faculty members. The department continues to explore new avenues. In its pursuit of excellence under the able guidance of Smt. P. Sailaja who rendered yeoman services to the department since it's inception.
The learning environment is enhanced by the use of ICT tools and efforts are taken to ensure that the learning process is innovative and progressive, giving due importance to problem -based learning, remedial classes, mentoring and value education, student centric participatory learning and proper grievance and redressal further ensure the integral development of students. In addition extension, literary activities, faculty exchange programmes, work shops, invited talks, conferences and seminars were conducted at regular intervals across the academic year.
Since most of the students have rural back drop, the department of English has prepared an action plan to enhance the language skills. First of all, the slow learners are identified through various methods like dictation test, self introduction, asking them simple questions etc. After identifying the slow learners, a syllabus with Basics in English has been prepared to tame the students for a few days . This helps the students in gaining a deeper understanding of the subject.Weak learners are greatly benefited through personal counseling and extra classes. Students who excelled in studies get better prospects to nurture their skills.
Highlights of the Department
A fully air-conditioned English language lab with 50 computers equipped with the software
'Let's talk' Fluent English with neutral accent(MEDHA's Spoken English)with 20 DVDs. The software has different modules on the basics like grammar, pronunciation, group discussion, mock interviews and different composition work. In addition to this, we have number of CD/DVDs on Functional English, situational English, phonetic sounds and many more.
All the above modules in DVDs were designed to enable flexible and dynamic language teaching and learning through a range of different activities and audio material, in groups or individually.
The department has its own library. The departmental library housing wide range of collections on language, literature and culture.
The department has the credit of 'Test center' for conducting English practical examination in degree curriculum at Andhra University level for 5 years (2006 - 2011)
The department offers campus recruitment training classes for UG students which will help them in their future prospects and career plans.
The department maintains consistent academic result of 95% +
our students have received so many laurels in the University examinations.
Placements:
Most of the students are getting placed in the group 2, teaching jobs in government and private schools, colleges and universities.
Some got jobs in call centres, business firms, computer programming, laboratory and research side, medical coding, CEOs in MNCs and various vocational institutions to mention a few
Course Structure:
The department offers general English for B Sc and B. Com graduate programs.
Semester System: 3 Semesters
(one General English paper in each semester along with ' Business communication (2nd semester skill development course for B. Com students) Online Business for (3rd Semester B. Com and Mathematics Combination students - skill development course)
